Hell of the North Cotswolds is this weekend and with the hope of bone dry dusty weather conditions here’s a setup up to hopefully touch the 4 hour mark….It’s not far off a regular cross setup up the major deviation being the addition of 2 waterbottle cages.
A Hope thick thin 40t chainring mated to an 11 – 28 cassette gives a wide enough ratio to cope with everything that this years route has to offer although this may still get swapped to an 11 – 32 just in case! The thick thin ring keeps the chain in place without the need for a chain device which can clog up like a front mech and slow you down in muddy conditions.
Here’s the gamble, Challenge CHICANE semi slick tyres, super fast on tarmac, gravel and grass so here’s not hoping for too much dew first thing on Sunday morning! There may be a couple of dicey moments going downhill but I think it’s worth it for the energy saved else where!
Other than that to give a bit of reprieve on the hands the bike is fitted with Bontrager ISOZONE bars with integrated gel pads under the bar tape.
Here’s the full spec:
TREK CROCKET 5 52cm
Shimano 105 drive components
40t HOPE thick thin chianring
11-28 shimano cassette
Challenge Chicane tyres 700×33
Bontrager XXX lite carbon seatpost
Bontrager ISOZONE bars
Selle Italia SLR saddle
If you’re riding Sunday, good luck! Weather looks set to be fantastic…..
See you out there!
